Bernstein began her real estate career in 1982. She soon opened her own real estate company, Bernstein Realty in 1985 and has taken a very active role in the Houston real estate market ever since. Bernstein has served as an HAR and TAR director as well as on numerous HAR committees.

Over the years, Bernstein has been very active with many local charities and enjoys contributing to the city she loves -Houston! She has worked with the March of Dimes, Race for the Cure, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and most recently served as chairperson for the Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation Luncheon. Bernstein was the co-creator of the foundation, which is dedicated to yearly fundraising activities that will benefit breast cancer research. The foundation is very close to Amy's heart as it was created in honor of her dear friend Nancy Owens. Owens, one of Houston's most loved and respected members of the real estate community, lost her battle with breast cancer in September 2001.
